REVIEW;

Portia Macintosh is a brilliant writer that left me in such a great mood days after reading this book which I could not put down. I was swooning, laughing and enjoying this fun read.

Stuck On You was not only a heartwarming, fun, sexy, and a romantic read, but it was also so adorable and so creative. Macintosh wrote such amazing characters in this story - I loved each one of them from Sadie to Adam and Damien, their meet cute through post-it notes, and the whole cast of characters - they were absolutely endearing and so enjoyable to read. This book was so well written and the plot so amazing.

This book had me longing for a British Christmas holiday which was a great escape from the heat and fires here in California.

I highly recommend this book for a fabulous rom-com with a fun twist you will love and swoon over.

7/29/20 THE GREENBECKER GAMBIT By Ben Graff Hosted by @rararesources

The Greenbecker Gambit

‘I only feel truly alive when the chess clock is ticking and the patterns on the squares in front of me are dancing in my head. Very little else gives me the same feeling. Nothing else, that does not involve a flame.’

Tennessee Greenbecker is bravely optimistic as he sets out to claim what he sees as rightfully his – the title of world chess champion. But who is he really? Is he destined to be remembered as chess champion or fire-starter? Either way, might this finally be his moment?

THOUGHTS/REVIEW:

THE GREENBECKER GAMBIT by Ben Graff is a well written story about an anti-hero, a very interesting character for me to read. The writing was well done and I thought that the story pacing kept my interest as it moved this fabulous story, utilizing within the backdrop - the chess world. Having a family of chess players, this book intrigued me and found it a really interesting addition to this interesting character.

The writing was certainly addicting as soon as I got into the story and into the mind of Tennessee Greenbecker. Graff explores the issues of mental health, isolation, and addiction in this thought provoking story.

This is quite the enjoyable read, and I look forward to more books by Ben Graff.

7/25/20 Starting Over at the Vineyard in Alsace: An uplifting, feel-good romance (Domaine des Montagnes Book 2) By Julie Stock

Publisher: Clued Up Publishing (July 14, 2020)
Publication Date: July 14, 2020
Sold by: Amazon.com Services LLC

Over at the Vineyard in Alsace

It’s springtime at The Vineyard in Alsace, a new season and a new beginning

After being abandoned by her partner when she falls pregnant, Lottie Schell goes home to live on The Vineyard in Alsace, where she has started a new relationship with the estate’s winemaker, Thierry. Now about to give birth, Lottie’s determined to raise her child and to provide for them both on her own without having to depend on anyone else.

Thierry Bernard is still dealing with his grief and guilt following the death of his wife two years earlier, for which he blames himself. When he meets Lottie, the instant attraction he feels towards her gives him hope that he can move on from the tragedy of his past, as long as he can tell Lottie the truth of what happened.

When circumstances force Lottie and Thierry closer together, they both find it hard to compromise – she’s proudly independent and he’s fiercely protective – and they’re both wary about trusting someone new with their heart.

Can Lottie and Thierry take a chance on each other, move on from their pasts and start over?

Escape to The Vineyard in Alsace once again with this romantic read set in the heart of Alsace’s wine country.

THOUGHTS/REVIEW:

Starting Over at the Vineyard in Alsace is a lovely novel I read by Julie Stout. This is book two in the Domaine des Montagnes series and enjoyed this very much. It worked for me as a stand alone novel.

This is a lovely story about second chances where the story is set in an absolutely gorgeous setting during the springtime in a French country wine region.

The characters were a delight to read about - their issues and all, which made for a very realistic story. I love that the story was very well written and a very nice escape read full of wonderful secondary characters that I am hoping to read about in the next installments of the book.

Overall, I enjoyed Lottie and Thierry's journey of love and lost, of acceptance and moving on. People cope in different ways and in their own time. It was nice to see the process of healing for each person who have suffered through some loss and grief.

The writing style was beautiful and easy to read. The author really understands human emotions and the mental health that takes a toll on our emotions and human interaction. A simple yet deep story that I loved reading about.

A Cornish Daisy’s Kiss BY LAURA BRIGGS

Print Length: 239 pages
Publication Date: June 24, 2020
Sold by: Amazon.com Services LLC

A Cornish Daisy’s Kiss
Weeks after boarding a train to Paris in pursuit of her writing dreams, aspiring novelist Maisie Clark is right back where she started: on the idyllic shores of Port Hewer in Cornwall, luggage in hand and heart filled with anticipation for what lies ahead. Except that nothing seems the same as Maisie left it, from her place among the staff at the hotel Penmarrow to her budding romance with groundskeeper Sidney Daniels, who isn’t quite ready to overlook the painful consequences of her sudden departure.

Losing Sidney would be unbearable, but Maisie can’t help fearing it might be true if the rift between them proves too deep to heal. She knows her feelings for him are unchanged, but whether he feels the same remains to be seen—particularly since she stopped him from expressing them in the first place. And to make matters worse, her position at the Penmarrow has been filled by another, there’s nowhere for her to live in the village, and her savings are finally dwindling to a pathetic number – with her book still unpublished after her startling discovery about the author helping guide her towards success.

But one thing which hasn’t changed is the drama and excitement at the hotel Penmarrow, where the staff is awaiting inspection from the dreaded owner Ms. Claypool. Stirring up trouble in the meantime is the owner’s special guest ‘Mad Ludwig’, an eccentric architect whose demands are definitely driving everyone on the staff a little crazy. And then there’s the hotel’s mysterious new desk manager, whose behavior ignites Maisie’s suspicions and causes her to become entangled in yet another form of intrigue—one that could unwittingly jeopardize the future of the Penmarrow and everyone who works there, unless Maisie can find a way to undo the harm.

With everything that matters to her most at stake this time, Maisie faces her biggest challenges yet...and her deepest question of the heart as she confronts the reason she returned to Cornwall and the Penmarrow in the first place.

REVIEW:

When I saw that that Laura Briggs has another book out in the A LITTLE HOTEL IN CORNWALL series and I get to visit our aspiring novelist Maisie Clark I was over the moon. I love reading Briggs series - they all have the small town feel, characters that are a hoot to read about, have me laughing out loud for some of the disastrous going-ons in the hotel Penmarrow and of course the right amount of romance that always gives me the feels. Reading Briggs series always puts me in a great mood - easy to read in an afternoon and always a great escape.

This time in A CORNISH DAISY'S KISS - the 6th book in the series, Maisie is back in the shores of Port Hewer in Cornwall. When we left it last, her romance with Sydney is on the rocks - with so much left unsaid about their feelings for each other. Maisie's position at the hotel had been replaced, she still has not published her book and with little left on her savings, Maisie is in a bit of trouble.

As always the hotel is always a place of buzz and this time some intrigue may have the hotel in jeopardy. With an inspection looming from the hotel owner Ms Claypool, and a hard to please guest in the hotel, the challenges at Penmorrow just doesn't seem to end - and I am all here for it.

As I always will, I highly recommend this series. This latest installment is a fun read full of what you come to expect from Laura Briggs, introducing new characters, unending drama in the hotel, some intrigue, and also romance.

Thank you for having me in this amazing book tour.

6/16/20 SEVEN AND A HALF MINUTES BY ROXANA VALEA

Print Length: 154 pages
Publisher: RV Publications (June 2, 2020)
Publication Date: June 2, 2020

Seven and a Half Minutes. The Polo Diaries Book 3

Before Roxy found herself “Single in Buenos Aires,” she was a single girl in London in search of true love. The third installment of The Polo Diaries series takes us back to that time, and we follow Roxy as she hires a love coach to help her navigate the dating scene. But the love coach comes up with an unexpected assignment: reconnect to a long-forgotten passion. For Roxy this means horses. Within weeks, she finds herself playing polo, thanks to a series of unforeseen events.

Torn between her desire to become the best polo player she can be and the dream of falling in love, Roxy steps fully into the exciting and demanding world of polo, where injury and recovery mix with hard training, and where celebrating the victory of a tournament comes at a high price. Will Roxy eventually become the polo player she dreams to be? And with polo being such a demanding sport, can there be any space left for love?

THOUGHTS/REVIEW:

I have read both Books 1 and 3 of the polo diaries and glad to see some background on Roxy as sort of a prequel of where this all started as a young woman in London before her adventures in South America. Love fore horses has always been a part of Roxy's life - her love and passion before anything else. Life sometimes leads us to discovering passions and for Roxy it is Polo. She soon realizes that the demands of the sport which leaves very little room for anything else.
I enjoyed reading this in an afternoon for a nice escape read and getting lost in the sport and London. It was so nice to read about Roxy again and this time, author Roxana Valea takes us to the very beginning where the polo diaries started.

Thank you Rachel's Random Resources for having me in this fun book tour.

6/7/20 RAINY DAYS FOR THE HARPER GIRLS by ROSIE CLARKE

Print Length: 344 pages
Publisher: Boldwood Books (June 2, 2020)
Publication Date: June 2, 2020

Rainy Days for the Harpers Girls

Hard times ahead for the Harpers girls...

It is two years since Harpers opened in Oxford Street and Ben is planning to expand the premises.

Life is good for Sally and Ben as they look forward to their first child and hope for a prosperous future. Beth is settling into married life with Jack, gradually recovering from her aunt’s tragic death, though still unable to conceive a child.

New girls have joined Harpers and Marion, Janice and Becky all become a part of the daily life at the busy store. Rachel is undecided whether to marry a man she isn’t sure she can trust, while Minnie meets an old love.

The sun is shining in English streets but on the horizon dark clouds gather over Europe and war looms
threatening bringing rainy days for the Harpers girls…

THOUGHTS/REVIEW:

I LOVED this book, Rainy Days for the Harper Girls, the third book in the “Welcome to the Harpers Emporium” series. I did read this as a stand alone not having read the previous two books and loved it. He setting is in 1914 Oxford Street, London when the First World War was on-going. The men were going off to the war and the women active in the suffragette movement. This was a tough time for everyone and the rich historical detail was written so well for the reader to be truly transported to that time, and the difficulties experienced by many.

Clarke wrote beautifully and easily read over an afrernoon where the writing will easily immerse you into this riveting story I absolutely enjoyed reading about the characters introduced, the enjoyable daily activities, their struggles, trials and tribulations. Though the war in Europe is in the forefront of the story, there were many heartwarming moments, families growing, new romance and other lovely moments that made this read a really fantastic one.

I hope that this series continues as I would love to hear more about this story and the characters. I highly recommend this book and the other books in the series. Well done Clarke on another fabulous installment.

THOUGHTS/REVIEW:

This is Book 4 of the Shop Girl Pennington Series and works as a great stand alone novel.

This book was a wonderful read for me that I absolutely enjoyed. I love historical fiction novels and this one was really special. This book had everything I enjoy in a book - amazing characters, daily life of working in Pennington, a department store as a shop girl, and the Titanic makes an appearance.

I have to say that Brimble writes with such heart and understanding taking great care of developing that story with amazing plot lines that is going to have me read all of the other books in this series, because I cannot be without these characters for too long. I have grown to enjoy them and the world Brimble created.

THOUGHTS/REVIEW:

I enjoy a second chance romance especially in a lovely beach town setting I can get lost in. Renee is a carefree woman who is enjoying summer flings and living the single and ready to mingle life. All fun until one day Luc her first love reappears into her life and her younger sister Cait needs her help in planning a wedding.

I enjoyed the characters and the underlying message within the story that explores our relationships in our family no matter how dysfunctional. I really enjoyed this fun beach read that took me to West Cove for an afternoon.

I recommend this book for great characterization, excellent location, and amazing dialogue that I enjoyed.
