3/14/20 DISTORTED DAYS by Louise Worthington

Distorted Days

If she could speak to them, she would say they have exploded her heart, released firecrackers through her senses. She wishes she could call the police, the ambulance, the fire brigade, to arrest and anaesthetise and waterboard the bastards.

So what happens when your husband runs off with your best friend? When you discover the dead body of an old man halfway through your delivery round? When your house is burgled and you get beaten up? Doris, Andy and Colleen are about to find out. They’re also about to discover that you can find friendship and support in the oddest of places…

Heart-rending, humorous and above all authentic, Distorted Days is an exquisitely written account of the ways in which life can knock you off our feet – and how you can pick yourself up again. If you’ve experienced the fickleness of fortune, this is a book that you’ll never forget.
THOUGHTS/REVIEW:

Distorted Days by Louise Worthington

Can we first of all admire the gorgeous cover of this book. The cover truly summarizes the overall feeling I had while enjoying my read on this book. It is both beautiful and stoic, seems ordinary but in closer look complex, isolating yet moving, and touching but also hopeful.

I truly enjoyed this amazing and unforgettable book by Louise Worthington. The characters were spot on and ones I would really love to get to know IRL. The plot and story line was so intriguing that it drew me in to the book with delight. The dialogue was exquisite and prose absolutely beautiful. It is truly an ordinary story of ordinary people in interesting circumstances and stories which I enjoy reading about.

I am so glad to have been introduced to author Louise Worthington by being a part of this tour as I simply am a fan of her writing. I was completely engrossed by her brilliant understanding of the human suffering, loneliness and psyche and how the power of friendships, a touch or understanding can heal the most broken and give it resilience.

Memorable Quotes from the book:

“She trudges from one end of the day to the next until she opens a book and disappears inside. After the fifth Jenga-style coffee table of books, she sees she needs a place to go. The lounge may cope with another two tables – which she calculates to be around twenty books – but that’s only about another month of escapism.”

“The memories of her marriage are like silt at the bottom of a water trough, stirred up by John’s departure to be with Lisa, turning them a murky green. If only it were just a matter of taking a tea-strainer to the silt.”
