I was a huge fan of "The Jane Austen Society" when I read it last year. So I am so excited to have the opportunity to read an early copy of "Bloomsbury Girls" that was even a more delightful read for me, that follows Evie from Jenner's previous novel. The Bloomsbury Girls follow three women - the ever so fashionable and witty Vivien Lowry, a mother's strength is tested through Grace Perkins, and our scholar from Cambridge Evie Stone who is doing her best to path her own way in a man's world. 

Bloomsbury Girls is set during post war London when everything is moving at a fast pace, where society is demanding to keep up with the times, in this impressive novel that is the perfect read with lots of cameos from some of my favorite female authors.

This novel was definitely charming, heart warming, and impossible to put down, I mean a historical fiction novel set in a bookstore, interweaving some of the most famous names in classical literature made this truly a book lovers' dream read.

REVIEW

THE MURDER OF MR. WICKHAM by Claudia Gray was certainly a delight to read, combining two of my favorite authors, Jane Austen and Agatha Christie, in one fantastic and amazing read. I was thinking to myself how brilliant this really was.

I loved the premise and was really intrigued to pick up this book. And yes, Mr Wickham was definitely an unliked character, and when he was found dead, the game was certainly afoot. Glad to know he got what was coming to him. I loved trying to find the clues and guess which of the Austen characters might have been the culprit. This was certainly a great whodunnit novel.

I also want to point out how amazing the cover is, and I was so excited to devour this amazing Regency period mystery. I love reading Austen and seeing the known to me characters as murder suspects in a closed room mystery, were all so exciting to read about.

Overall - great writing and brilliant concept. Do pick this book up.

I had been waiting for this follow -up since I read THE THREE MRS GREYS last year (and left with a cliffhanger), and TRUTH, LIES, AND MR GREY is one vengeful and dramatic read I really enjoyed. I loved the fast paced writing and perfectly interwoven storylines presented in multiple point of views. The plotting was so fun to read giving the unexpected twists and a few surprises. I enjoyed following through with the story and Cyrus' three vengeful and betrayed wives, Vanessa, Noelle, and Diamond. This is definitely an addictive series that I recommend.

Kathleen Stone notably featured extraordinary and inspiring women representing phenomenal careers including medicine, political and social activism, intelligence, physics, and law. Through historical backgrounds, readers glean not only their life stories, motivations, but also affecting changes in how we see the world. I really am so proud to be a woman and have these inspirational heroes to look up to.

I loved and enjoyed reading this book and will be one I will continue to recommend to my young students looking for inspiration for their future career path.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

As a writer, I spend most of my time thinking and writing about women's history, other books and art, and how they intersect. Previously, in what now seems like another life, I wrote countless legal briefs in my work as a lawyer. Disparate as this sounds, the through-line between my writing then and now is my interest in exploring new material and synthesizing it in written form.

My book, They Called Us Girls: Stories of Female Ambition from Suffrage to Mad Men, forthcoming from Cynren Press in March 2022, is a collection of biographical portraits of seven women who had careers in male-dominated professions in the mid-twentieth century. Through this group biography, I look at the subject of female ambition - where it came from and how it was nurtured in an era when housewife was considered the highest and best use of a woman's abilities.

When I began writing, I knew only bits and pieces of women's history. Really, most of what I knew came from my own experience of being in college, landing my first job and deciding to become a lawyer, all during the 1970s – heady times for the women's movement. But They Called Us Girls is about an older generation of women. To write about them I had to understand the world as it appeared then. How did a girl born in the 1920s, as most of the women were, see the world and discover what avenues would be open to her? I dug into historical research in order to situate the women's stories in a larger context, and came to see history from a women's perspective.

In addition to research – and this is true for every author – personal experience informs my writing. I'm a native Bostonian who loves the city, but also spends a lot of time in Maine. I attended Oberlin College, Boston University School of Law and Bennington Writing Seminars. I'm a wife, mother and sister. Also a skier, sailor and (decidedly amateur) jazz piano player.

MY REVIEW:

JATYWS is the fourteenth installment in the Jane Austen Mystery Series written by Stephanie Barron. Set during the Sumer of 1816 when Jane’s sudden onset ailments leads to seeking an apothecary’s advice - so off to Chaltenham Spa Jane goes for its curative waters with her sister Cassandra. While there m, the sisters are faced with some difficult boarders who may have a taste for murder.

I really enjoyed the superlative writing and extensive research without distracting and overwhelming the story. As a nurse, I really appreciated the medical historical facts sprinkled throughout the novel - including history about vaccines and also the determination of some physicians blaming the uterus for much of female maladies and discomforts.

Overall, an enjoyable quick read perfect for fans of Jane Austen, who will devour this Historical Regency Murder Mystery read.

MY THOUGHTS:

I love imperfect characters – the messier the better. Getting Clean with Stevie Green is a darkly funny, witty read that looks at life on how one woman’s past (a high school scandal) lead down into a rabbit hole of a mess. It is a heavy read, but very hopeful. I love the process of seeing Stevie Green gets cleaned up physically, mentally, and metaphorically.

Stevie Green is a fast paced read with short chapters that moved the story forward. Though the story dealt with issues of alcoholism, sexual identity, and family relationships, I found the story enjoyable and delightful. This was certainly a different read, and I am glad have had the opportunity to read this.

She earned her MFA at Columbia University and has received fellowships from The MacDowell Colony and The Corporation at Yaddo, where she was the 2019 recipient of The LeSage-Fullilove Residency. About the Author

Chinwe Esimai is a multiple award-winning lawyer, trailblazing corporate executive, writer, and speaker who helps women leaders discover and embrace their genius and live lives of impact and fulfillment. She is managing director and chief anti-bribery officer at Citigroup, Inc, the first person to hold this title in the bank’s history.

Chinwe spent five years at Goldman Sachs in various regulatory risk-management roles and also served as a law professor at the University of St. Thomas School of Law. Chinwe has received numerous awards: American Banker's Most Powerful Women in Banking; Leading Ladies Africa’s 100 Most Inspiring Women; Tropics Magazine's Most Powerful Africans Shaping the Future of Africa; Nigerian Lawyers Association Trailblazer of the Year; Face2Face Africa Corporate Leadership Award; and Diversity Magazine's Elite 100.
